This morning, James Gunn shared a teaser for a motion poster that led some people to believe it was a Superman trailer. However, a few moments later, he shared a small preview along with the news that the real Superman trailer would be released on Thursday, December 19. At 9 AM ET, if it coincides with the time he currently posts content.

I believe it’s possible to overanalyze this teaser, which Gunn recently posted. It’s a metal engraving of Superman’s logo. In his stronghold? The Justice Hall? Who knows?

And here’s the motion poster that he put up before that, which is a new, official look at David Corenswet’s Superman in flight.

Even if you missed it, we already know the movie’s release date, so the Superman teaser won’t give it away. Eight months from now, on July 11, 2025, the movie will be released, which is why we’re receiving a trailer now.

This will be the main kick-off of the DCU, even though yes, technically, it’s already started. Currently, the first real DCU thing is Creature Commandos, the animated series that features Suicide Squad monster remnants with some characters that will eventually appear in live-action played by their voice counterparts. One of those is Clayface, voiced by Alan Tudyk, who will soon appear in Creature Commandos And apparently, star in that film.

Gunn has also appeared to make large pieces of his own Peacemaker and Suicide Squad canon, bringing over plot points and actors from those, albeit perhaps with some exceptions (we have no idea of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn will ever exist in this universe, for instance, and she seemed to be moving on).

The Superman trailer will serve as the pivotal moment for the early DCU, allowing us to witness Gunn’s vision in action. Will it be as heavily comedic as Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy, or is he aiming for a completely different tone with this one?

James Gunn Announces the Date of the Upcoming DCU "Superman" Trailer Release

The two major projects on the table after this are the HBO series Lanterns and a Supergirl movie. Numerous other television shows and films have been announced, but they are all farther off and lack casts. Additionally, there will be a Batman 2 that is not part of the DCU, but according to Gunn, the script is not yet complete.

I am very much looking forward to Thursday to get some glimpse at what is hopefully a great new era of DC to give Marvel a run for its money. We’ll find out soon.
